Peter Weatherburn has been the Director of Sigma Research since 1997, and has worked in sexual health research since 1988. As Director of Sigma Research he has developed and expanded the units research and development programme, and identified, specified and managed more than 45 new research and evaluation projects.
Peter has been at the forefront of Sigma’s implementation of new technologies including a variety of websites and online surveys. He has extensive experience in sexual health and evaluation research and has been lead investigator for Sigma Research in the CHAPS Research and Development programme since its inception in November 1996. Peter was involved in the establishment of The National Strategy for HIV and Sexual Health (Department of Health 2001) and in the development of key policy frameworks both for CHAPS (Making it Count) and for the National African HIV Prevention (NAHIP) programme (The Knowledge, The Will and The Power, 2008 and the African HIV prevention Handbook, 2009). Peter has extensive experience of needs assessment and programme evaluation. He manages all of Sigma Research’s research and development programmes at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society.
