Framework to address the health, social care, support and information needs of people living with diagnosed HIV in the UK
Duration: March 2007 - January 2009
Sigma Research was funded by Terrence Higgins Trust to co-ordinate the development of a framework to address the health, social care, support and information needs of people with diagnosed HIV in the UK. Sigma Research worked on the framework with a range of other organisations who sent representatives to a Framework Development Group.
The public consultation draft the the Framework for better living with HIV in the UK is available here.
It was released on 17th October 2008 for 8 weeks of consultation. All comments are due by 5pm on 12th December 2008. Written feedback and comments are welcome from all interested parties. The evolving framework is evidence-based and seeks to:
- Promote and protect the rights and well-being of all people with HIV in the UK.
- Maximise the capacity of individuals and groups of people with HIV to care for, advocate and represent themselves effectively.
- Improve and protect access to appropriate information, social support, social care and clinical services.
- Minimise social, economic, governmental and judicial change detrimental to the health and well being of people with HIV.
By establishing and communicating aims and objectives, the framework will build consensus and provide a means to establish how interventions can be prioritised and coordinated. This framework will maximise activities which are likely to bring about beneficial aims and provide a basis to minimise the impact of activities and interventions detrimental to its aims. The key drivers for the framework are:
- Clearly articulated ethical principles agreed by all those who sign up to it.
- An inclusive social development / health promotion approach.
Alongside the development of this framework, Sigma Research is undertaking a national needs assessment among people with diagnosed HIV across the UK. These two projects will inform and support each other.
Proposed outputs: The final edition of the framework will be published by the end of January 2009.
